Water heating coils

Heating coils for ventilation are heat exchangers mounted in the ventilation airstream with the purpose of pre-heating cold fresh air from outside before it enters the ventilated space or the air handling unit. Without pre-heating, introducing outdoor air at sub-zero temperatures in the cold season would cause severe thermal discomfort, would overload the air conditioning system and could damage heat recovery unit heat exchangers through condensate freezing.

Hot water heating coils at 70-90°C are the most energy-efficient solution for installations connected to centralised district heating systems or their own boiler plant. The cost of thermal energy from the network is significantly lower than electrical energy — the difference becomes significant in large installations that operate long hours daily during the cold season. They are standard components of ventilation plants (AHUs) in commercial and industrial buildings, hotels, hospitals and shopping centres.

Heating coil sizing is carried out based on the treated airflow (m³/h), the design outdoor air temperature and the desired supply temperature.
