Underground Car Park Ventilation — Jet Fan Systems, F400 Smoke Extraction and CO Sensors

Underground car parks are among Romania's most regulated spaces: normative NP 127:2009, complemented by NP 24-2022 and P118-1:2025, mandatorily requires mechanical forced ventilation with two distinct functions — normal anti-CO ventilation (daily operation) and emergency smoke extraction in case of fire at 300–400°C for 120 minutes.

Anti-CO ventilation: carbon monoxide emitted by combustion engines accumulates rapidly in enclosed spaces. STAS 12574 requires maximum 50 ppm CO continuous and 100 ppm short-term. CO sensors on ventilation.ro (HVAC Control category) automatically activate the ventilation system when the threshold is exceeded.

The Jet Fan system — the modern ductwork-free solution: ceiling-mounted impulse fans create through the Coandă effect an organised flow transporting CO and smoke to final extraction outlets, completely eliminating the need for a distribution duct network. Advantages over the traditional duct system: 30–40% lower initial investment, faster installation, simpler maintenance.

Important: Jet Fan system sizing must be validated through a mandatory CFD study (SR CEN/TR 12101-5) — the only method demonstrating smoke evacuation compliance that ISU accepts for approval.
