EC motor fans — maximum energy efficiency for modern HVAC installations

The EC (Electronically Commutated) motor represents the current generation of electric motors for fans, progressively replacing conventional AC motors in all new HVAC installations where energy efficiency and precise airflow control are priorities.

An EC motor has a rotor built with permanent magnets rotating around a wound stator. Unlike a conventional AC motor running at a fixed speed determined by mains frequency (50 Hz), the EC motor incorporates an integrated electronic driver that converts AC mains voltage to DC and generates a variable magnetic field in the stator. This enables precise speed control without losses in external controllers — all power required for a given airflow is consumed directly by the motor, without additional heat dissipation in rheostats or transformers.

EC motor advantages over conventional AC motors: energy consumption 30–50% lower at partial speeds (the most common operating regime in real installations); continuously variable speed via 0–10V analogue signal or Modbus RTU/RS485 digital interface; significantly lower noise at partial speeds; no maintenance (brushless, lifetime-lubricated bearings, no mechanical wear parts); service life 2–3× longer than conventional AC motors; ErP 2015+ compliant as standard; the reference solution for nZEB buildings.
