EC motor roof fans — maximum energy efficiency for roof ventilation

EC motor roof fans represent the current generation of roof ventilation equipment — the same extraction function as classic roof units, but with fundamentally superior energy efficiency. The EC — Electronically Commutated — motor replaces the AC asynchronous motor with a permanent magnet motor and integrated electronic controller, achieving 90–95% efficiency compared to 55–75% for AC motors, especially at partial loads.

The practical significance: roof fans frequently operate 12–24 hours a day, sometimes 365 days a year. At this utilisation rate, the efficiency difference between EC and AC translates to 30–50% energy savings — and the premium investment over an AC roof fan is recovered in 12–24 months even at current electricity prices. A warehouse using 8 EC roof fans of 1 kW each instead of AC can save 10,000–15,000 kWh per year.

Intelligent control is the second major advantage: the EC motor accepts 0-10V or Modbus RTU signal directly, without an external speed controller. Connected to hall temperature sensors or the building's BMS, EC roof fans automatically adjust speed and airflow to match conditions — more in summer peak, less at night or in winter. The result: consistent thermal comfort at minimum energy consumption.
