Plug backward curved EC motor

Incorporable plug fans backward-curved — centrifugal components for AHU plenum mounting

Incorporable plug fans with backward-curved impeller are centrifugal components designed to be integrated directly into the body of air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units or any assembly where the fan operates without its own spiral casing. The EC motor is standard in this range — not an option — chosen by AHU manufacturers precisely because it eliminates external speed controllers and simplifies electrical integration.

What "incorporable" means in AHU design practice: a classic centrifugal fan is a complete unit — rotor, motor and spiral casing welded or flanged together. An incorporable fan is just the rotor mounted on the motor, without its own casing. The AHU manufacturer provides the housing or plenum that collects the air discharged by the rotor. This separation allows:

  • Reduced AHU footprint — without doubling the volume occupied by the fan's own spiral casing
  • Design flexibility — the AHU manufacturer sizes the plenum according to available space and air distribution, not according to the fan's casing
  • Fast replacement — a failed rotor is removed and replaced without demolishing the AHU structure

Why backward-curved blades for AHU incorporation: Backward-curved blades provide the self-limiting power characteristic — the motor cannot be overloaded regardless of pressure or airflow variations in the installation. This is a fundamental requirement for incorporable rotors, as the AHU manufacturer cannot always guarantee that static pressure in their plenum will remain within design limits. Backward-curved blades absorb variations without overstressing the integrated EC motor.

The EC motor accepts 0-10V or Modbus RTU signal for direct integration into AHU automation — without an external variable frequency drive. The driver mounted on the motor — a plug and play solution — connect power and signal and the fan starts immediately at optimal parameters, with no on-site configuration.

Range and selection: rotors from 200 mm to 900 mm diameter, 0.18 kW to 18 kW, single-phase and three-phase. Correct selection requires knowledge of the available static pressure in the AHU plenum and required airflow — parameters that differ from those of a freely mounted fan, as the plenum configuration influences the operating curve.
