Belt drive axial fans

Belt-driven axial fans — for demanding industrial applications and high temperatures

Belt-driven axial fans differ from direct-drive fans through the physical separation of the electric motor from the axial rotor — the motor transmits rotational motion via V-belt and pulleys, without direct mechanical contact with the airflow. This construction offers decisive advantages in demanding industrial applications.

The primary advantage is resistance to high temperatures: the electric motor is positioned outside the hot airstream, significantly extending service life compared to direct-drive motors. They are ideal for extracting hot air from industrial ovens, dryers, thermal processing spaces and any application where air temperature exceeds 50–60°C. The second major advantage is mechanical speed adjustment — by replacing the drive or driven pulley, different rotation speeds and therefore different airflows can be achieved without any investment in electronic control.

They are used in the food industry (hot air extraction from ovens and production lines), building materials industry (ceramic dryers, brickworks), timber industry (lumber dryers), textile industry and wherever the temperature of the extracted air or the heat radiated from the space would compromise the operation of a direct-drive motor.

How to choose: determine the maximum working air temperature and select the model with the appropriate thermal rating. Calculate the required pulley diameter for the desired speed and airflow based on the manufacturer's performance curves. Check belt tension periodically — a slack belt causes slippage and noise, an overtightened one causes premature bearing wear.
