ATEX roof fans — certified vertical extraction from spaces with potentially explosive atmospheres

ATEX roof fans are extraction fans for roof mounting, certified for applications where the air extracted from the building originates from spaces with a potentially explosive atmosphere. Unlike ATEX axial or centrifugal fans that discharge air laterally (through walls or horizontal ducts), ATEX roof fans extract air vertically, through the roof — the standard technical solution for large industrial halls where horizontal ducts are impractical or absent.

Why ATEX roof fans are needed separately from standard roof fans: Flammable gases and solvent vapours are generally lighter than air and accumulate at roof level. Roof extraction is therefore the most efficient method of eliminating explosive atmospheres from a hall — but this very proximity to the maximum concentration of flammable gas requires the extraction fan to be ATEX certified. A standard roof unit above a hall with an explosive atmosphere is a potential ignition source.

Construction: steel casing with anti-corrosion protection, ATEX certified motor, aluminium rotor with anti-spark ring or fully non-ferrous construction per ATEX category requirements, mounting plinth for various roof types (flat, slightly pitched).

Main applications: production halls with processes generating flammable gases or solvent vapours, flammable material warehouses with insufficient natural ventilation, chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry, battery manufacturing plants (hydrogen gas), paint and lacquer spray installations.
