The KWH-18 W is a hot water air curtain — the heating element is a water coil connected to the building's central heating circuit, not an electric resistance heater. This fundamental distinction determines which installations the KWH-18 W is suited for and why it is often preferred over an electric air curtain in commercial buildings with central heating.

Hot water coil versus electric heating — why it matters

An electric air curtain generates heat by passing current through a resistance element — simple to install but costly to operate at high duty cycles because electricity is significantly more expensive per kWh than heat from a central boiler or district heating network. A hot water air curtain draws heat from the existing building heating circuit at the marginal cost of the heat itself — which, when the boiler or heat pump is already running, is close to zero incremental cost. For shops and commercial spaces that are open 8–12 hours per day through the heating season, this difference accumulates into meaningful operating cost savings.

Cross-flow fan — 100mm, 7 m/s outlet velocity

The 100mm cross-flow (tangential) fan generates a uniform, laminar air jet across the full 2,000 mm width of the unit at a consistent outlet velocity of 7 m/s. This is sufficient to create an effective air barrier for installation heights up to 2.5 m — covering the majority of standard commercial door openings. The cross-flow design inherently produces lower noise than axial fans at equivalent airflow rates, making the KWH-18 W suitable for noise-sensitive environments such as hotel lobbies, bank branches and upmarket retail.

Control and automation

The KWH-18 W includes a control panel (mounted on the unit) and an external remote control for fan speed adjustment and on/off. It is also compatible with a door opening switch — a contact switch fitted to the door frame that activates the curtain automatically when the door opens and stops it when the door closes, eliminating manual operation and ensuring the air barrier is active precisely when the door is open.

Installation

Horizontal mounting above the door opening. Maximum installation height: 2.5 m above floor level — the unit should be positioned as close to the door frame as possible for maximum barrier effectiveness. Hot water connection to the building heating circuit (supply and return). 230V electrical supply for the fan motor.

Typical applications: shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, hotels, bank branches, schools, supermarkets, pharmacies, waiting rooms — any commercial space with door widths up to 2,000 mm and installation heights up to 2.5 m, with access to a central heating circuit.
