Fan speed control from the wall

The potentiometer turns a control voltage of up to 12 V DC into a signal you can adjust smoothly from 0 to the supply voltage. Turning the knob changes the fan speed or the damper position. It is used with:

• EC fans, controlled directly by the analogue signal;
• AC fans, through electronic speed controllers or frequency inverters with an analogue input;
• damper actuators with a 0–10 V input.

The potentiometer takes its control voltage from the device it controls, so it needs no power supply of its own.

Dry contact for start/stop

When the knob is turned fully counterclockwise, it clicks into the OFF position: the output drops to 0 V and the dry contact opens. When you turn it clockwise, the contact closes. The contact can start and stop the fan remotely, or any other equipment such as a damper, a pump or lighting. It is rated up to 4 A at 250 V AC.

Mount it where you need it

The potentiometer can be surface-mounted (IP54) or flush-mounted in standard European wall boxes (IP44). It fits on solid walls, drywall or wooden panels. You can place it in the kitchen, office or reception, while the speed controller or inverter stays in the technical room or electrical cabinet. Wires connect to screw terminals, so no soldering is needed.

FAQ

Can it control an AC fan directly?
No. An AC fan needs an electronic speed controller or a frequency inverter with an analogue input, and the potentiometer sends the control signal to that device. EC fans can be controlled directly.

Does it need a power supply?
It needs no separate supply. It gets its control voltage (max. 12 V DC) from the EC fan, the speed controller or the inverter.

What is the dry contact for?
It starts and stops equipment. In the OFF position the contact is open and the equipment is off. When you turn the knob, the contact closes and the equipment starts.

Can it be installed in a bathroom or outdoors?
No, it is for indoor use only, at 0…50 °C and non-condensing humidity. When surface-mounted, it is protected to IP54 against dust and splashes.
