Activated carbon granules are the reference filter medium for removing odours, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), solvent vapours and other chemical contaminants from ventilated air. Unlike mechanical filters (G4, F7, F9) which retain solid particles, activated carbon works through chemical adsorption — gas and vapour molecules bind to the enormous internal surface of the granules and are permanently retained.

How activated carbon works: granules are produced by activating carbon at very high temperatures in the presence of steam or CO₂, creating an extremely porous internal structure. The specific surface area of one gram of quality activated carbon can exceed 1,000 m² — a 25 kg bag containing an active surface equivalent to several football pitches. This vast surface retains gas molecules through Van der Waals adsorption forces.

Main applications: Paint booths and spray booths — retaining organic solvent vapours (toluene, xylene, acetone) and reducing VOC emissions in exhaust air, meeting environmental and occupational health standards. Underground car parks — reducing hydrocarbon, fuel and exhaust gas odours in poorly ventilated spaces. Laboratories and chemical industry — filtering exhaust air from laboratory fume cupboards, reaction chambers and spaces where volatile chemicals are handled. Professional kitchens and food industry — deodorising hood exhaust air, reducing grease and smoke odours before discharge to atmosphere. High air quality requirement spaces — museums, archives, clean rooms, medical spaces where odours and chemical contaminants must be controlled below strict thresholds.

Available in 25 kg bags. Quantity required depends on the carbon filter volume and layer thickness specified in the design — typically 50–150 mm layer depth for standard ventilation installations. Activated carbon is replaced when adsorption capacity is saturated, indicated by the reappearance of odours at the filter outlet.
