The Ø200 mm circular air valve is a terminal air distribution element used in mechanical ventilation systems for supplying fresh air to or extracting stale air from rooms. Unlike louvred grilles, the valve provides uniform, laminar air distribution with no strong directional jet — making it ideal for spaces where thermal and acoustic comfort are priorities.
Construction and materials
The valve body and central cone are manufactured in anodised aluminium — highly corrosion-resistant, durable and aesthetically clean. The white finish integrates naturally into any finished ceiling or wall. Unlike plastic equivalents, aluminium valves do not yellow or deform over time under heat or UV exposure.
Airflow adjustment
The central cone is axially adjustable — by rotation or translation relative to the fixed body, the gap between cone and frame increases or decreases, modifying the airflow cross-section and consequently the airflow rate. This adjustment allows the valve to be tuned to design airflows without replacing the component, particularly useful during commissioning or subsequent system rebalancing.
Supply and extract operation
The valve operates in both airflow directions:
- Extract: room air enters through the valve perimeter and is drawn through the duct to the exterior or to the ventilation unit. Typical for bathrooms, kitchens, offices.
- Supply: fresh air arriving through the duct is distributed uniformly into the room through the valve perimeter. Typical for living rooms, bedrooms, offices with centralised MVHR or air conditioning systems.
Typical applications
- Residential MVHR systems (heat recovery with ductwork) — extract terminals in bathrooms and kitchens, supply terminals in bedrooms and living rooms
- Centralised air conditioning in offices, hotels, clinics
- Extract in communal bathrooms and WCs in commercial buildings
- Ventilation in server rooms and technical spaces where uniform distribution reduces hot spots
Installation
The valve mounts directly on a Ø200 mm circular duct connection or on a plenum box. Secured by screwing into the mounting ring or by clips depending on installation configuration. Compatible with rigid and flexible Ø200 mm circular ductwork.
FAQ
What is the difference between an air valve and a louvred grille? A louvred grille directs air in a preferred direction controlled by blade angle. A circular valve distributes air uniformly 360° around the cone with no directional jet — producing more laminar, quieter distribution, ideal for low airflow rates and residential spaces.
Can the valve be used for both extract and supply? Yes. The valve is bidirectional — the same model works correctly for both extract (stale air removal) and supply (fresh air introduction). The direction of airflow does not affect operation or adjustment.
How do I adjust the airflow after installation? The central cone is adjusted manually, typically with a screwdriver or by direct rotation of the cone depending on the model. Moving the cone closer to the body reduces airflow; moving it away increases it. Adjustment is made against design airflow figures or by measurement with an anemometer.
What ductwork is it compatible with? The Ø200 mm valve connects directly to rigid circular ductwork (spiral or straight) or flexible ducting of Ø200 mm, as well as to plenum boxes with a Ø200 mm spigot.
Is it suitable for bathroom or kitchen use? Yes — the Ø200 mm valve is suited to large bathrooms, professional kitchens or communal WCs where higher extract airflow rates are required. For standard residential bathrooms (under 8 m²), the Ø100–125 mm valves are typically sufficient.
Does it require maintenance? Anodised aluminium valves require only periodic wiping with a damp cloth. The adjustable cone has no moving parts subject to wear. Estimated service life: 20+ years under normal operating conditions.
