T2P 400x200 mm Double Deflection Wall Grille — The Compact Format
Double deflection, in brief
The T2P grille has two rows of adjustable blades, perpendicular to each other: the front row follows the 400 mm side, the rear row runs across it. The result — you can aim the air jet in both planes, sideways and vertically, not just one.
Single deflection grilles have one row of blades and aim air in a single plane, at lower cost.
(The full explanation of the difference, with the selection rule, is on the T2P 600x450 page.)
Why double deflection matters precisely on a small format
It may seem counter-intuitive, but on small grilles the adjustment often matters more than on large ones.
A 400x200 mm grille has 0.08 m² face area — so at the same airflow, outlet velocity is higher than on a large grille. A more concentrated, badly aimed jet is felt directly: a draught on the neck in a hotel room, or across someone's desk, is the most common complaint in air-conditioned spaces.
With double deflection, the jet can be raised towards the ceiling for mixing, deflected sideways into free space, or lowered under control — according to the real situation, not the one drawn on the plan.
Where the 400x200 mm format is used
This is the typical size for individual spaces, not large halls:
- Hotel rooms — supply air above the door or near the bathroom
- Single offices and consulting rooms — where a large grille would be out of proportion
- Apartments with ducted air conditioning
- Waiting areas, receptions, small lobbies
- Small retail — shops, pharmacies, salons
The 2:1 ratio suits walls with limited vertical space: above a door, below a window, in a false-ceiling recess.
Seasonal adjustment — two minutes that change comfort
- In cooling, cold air is denser and falls by itself. Aim the jet horizontally or slightly upwards so it mixes before descending over people.
- In heating, warm air rises and stratifies under the ceiling. Aim the blades downwards to push heat into the occupied zone.
In hotel rooms, where the grille is close to the bed, this adjustment is the difference between a satisfied guest and a complaint at reception.
Construction
Anodised aluminium — the oxide layer protects the metal, does not flake and does not degrade under repeated cleaning. Maintain with a soft cloth, without solvents or abrasives.
Electrostatic RAL painting to order — for integration into coloured walls or where the architect specifies a shade.

Versions available to order
The T2P range is made in numerous configurations: T2P-D (with volume control damper), T2P-E (accessible), T2P-FA (with filter), their combinations, T2P-AUTH (blades rotated automatically by supply air temperature), T2P-ON/OFF-220V and T2P-ANALOGUE-24V (motorised blades), T2P-IN304 (stainless steel), T2P-SR (for round duct mounting) and -SPQ (in a 595x595 mm plate for ceiling grids).
At 400x200 mm, the most frequently requested is T2P-D, with an integrated damper — it allows airflow balancing at the grille, without working on the ductwork.
FAQ
What airflow passes through a 400x200 mm grille? It depends on the permitted outlet velocity and the acceptable noise level — a hotel room and a circulation corridor are sized differently at the same size. Send us your design airflow and we'll confirm whether this size fits.
Wouldn't single deflection be enough on such a small grille? Often yes, and it costs less. But on small grilles outlet velocity is higher, so a badly aimed jet is felt directly. In hotel rooms, single offices and spaces where people sit close to the grille, double deflection is worth it.
Can I control airflow as well as direction? Not from the blades. For airflow, order the T2P-D version with an integrated damper, or fit a separate damper behind the grille.
How is it cleaned? With a soft cloth, dry or slightly damp. Avoid solvents and abrasives, which damage the anodised layer.
