ITRS 9-60 DT Electronic Fan Speed Controller – Precise Control for Single-Phase Fans
The ITRS 9-60 DT electronic speed controller is the professional solution for manual speed control of single-phase fans with voltage-controllable motors, used in residential, commercial and industrial HVAC systems. With universal 110–240 VAC supply, maximum controlled current of 6A, TRIAC microprocessor technology and a comprehensive set of safety and automation functions, the ITRS 9-60 DT delivers an excellent balance of simplicity, reliability and advanced capability.
TRIAC microprocessor technology – smooth and silent control
Speed control is achieved by phase-angle variation (TRIAC technology), managed by a microprocessor that ensures smooth, progressive and silent speed adjustment. Unlike simple resistor-based controllers, TRIAC microprocessor technology eliminates electromagnetic noise, reduces thermal dissipation and provides superior adjustment precision across the full speed range.
Immediate plug-and-use installation
The controller requires no complex configuration – it is ready to use immediately after connection. The ON/OFF LED switch and speed potentiometer are mounted directly on the housing, enabling simple and intuitive local control. The minimum start voltage can be fine-tuned via an internal trimmer, adapting start behaviour to the specific characteristics of the connected fan.
Kickstart and Softstart – selectable by jumper
An internal jumper allows selection of the start mode according to fan type:
- Kickstart – delivers a voltage pulse at start-up to overcome rotor inertia, recommended for centrifugal fans requiring higher starting torque
- Softstart – gradual start with slow voltage rise, recommended for axial fans and applications where mechanical start-up shock must be minimised
Motor thermal protection via TK contacts
The controller monitors the thermal contacts (TK) of the fan motor. If the motor temperature exceeds the rated limit, the ITRS 9-60 DT automatically disables the motor, preventing permanent damage from overheating. This safety function is essential in continuous-duty applications or high-temperature environments.
Constant 230V / 2A output – for automation
A 230 VAC / Imax 2A output activates as soon as the motor starts, enabling automatic supply to auxiliary devices such as: motorised dampers (actuated control dampers), operation indicator lights, signalling relays or other installation automation equipment.
Remote start/stop
The controller features two dedicated remote start/stop inputs, enabling integration with automation systems, control panels or external sensors (pressure switches, thermostats, presence sensors, etc.).

FAQ – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: Which fans are compatible with the ITRS 9-60 DT? A: The ITRS 9-60 DT is compatible with single-phase fans equipped with voltage-controllable AC motors – i.e. single-phase asynchronous capacitor motors with a linear voltage-speed characteristic. Most single-phase 230V centrifugal and axial fans available on ventilation.ro are compatible, including the BD, DDM, BT, BDM series and similar. It is not compatible with EC (electronically commutated) motors, three-phase motors or fixed-frequency motors without a control winding.
Q: What is the difference between kickstart and softstart and when should each be used? A: Kickstart delivers a brief full-voltage pulse at start-up to overcome rotor inertia and static friction. It is recommended for centrifugal fans (BD, DDM, etc.) which have a heavier rotor mass and require higher starting torque at low potentiometer settings. Softstart starts the motor with a slow, progressive voltage rise, reducing mechanical and electrical start-up shock. It is preferred for lightweight axial fans or applications where minimising mechanical stress at start-up is a priority.
Q: Can multiple fans be connected in parallel to the same controller? A: Yes, provided the sum of the nominal currents of all connected motors does not exceed 6A total. For example, 2–3 small fans can be connected in parallel, provided each has a nominal current below 5A and the total remains under 6A. All motors will run at the same speed, set by the controller potentiometer.
Q: What is the L1 constant 230V / 2A output used for? A: The L1 output provides a constant 230 VAC (max. 2A) that activates as soon as the controller starts the motor. This output is typically used for: supplying a motorised damper (actuated control damper) that opens automatically when the fan starts, powering an operation indicator light on a control panel, or controlling a signalling relay in the automation system.
Q: How does TK thermal protection work? A: Many fan motors are fitted with thermal contacts (TK) – bimetallic sensors integrated into the motor windings that open when the temperature exceeds a preset value (typically 130–150°C). The ITRS 9-60 DT continuously monitors the status of these contacts. If the TK contact opens due to overheating, the controller automatically stops the motor. It restarts automatically once the motor has cooled and the TK contact returns to its normal state.
Q: Can the ITRS 9-60 DT be integrated into automation systems or BMS? A: Yes, via the two remote start/stop inputs. These inputs allow the motor to be started and stopped by an external sensor, thermostat, pressure switch, timer or BMS (Building Management System). The speed remains set by the local potentiometer, but start/stop can be controlled automatically. For full speed control via a 0–10V analogue signal from a BMS, the ITRS 9-60 A variant (with analogue input) is recommended.
Q: How is the minimum start voltage adjusted? A: The minimum voltage (Umin) is adjusted via the internal trimmer, accessible after opening the housing. This sets the minimum voltage at which the motor can still run stably without stopping or vibrating. Correct Umin setting is important to prevent operation at excessively low speeds where the motor might fail to start or generate vibration and noise. The setting procedure is described in detail in the technical datasheet PDF attached to the product page.
Q: How can I order or request advice? A: You can order directly through the product page form, or contact us at +40 722 667 239 (phone/WhatsApp) for free technical advice on compatibility with your fan and optimal installation configuration.
