CM 150 vs. a standard 150mm axial fan — the fundamental difference
Conventional 150mm inline fans are axial — they produce high airflow but low static pressure. They work efficiently only on short ducts without bends or significant aeraulic resistance. As soon as the installation has more than 2–3 metres of duct or several bends, the axial can no longer overcome the resistance and actual airflow drops dramatically below the nominal rating.
The ACM 150 is mixed flow — the impeller geometry combines axial and centrifugal principles, generating both high airflow and elevated static pressure simultaneously. At high speed: 155 l/s (558 m³/h) and static pressure of 46 Pa. At 100 Pa static pressure (long duct with multiple bends) the ACM 150 still delivers 112 l/s — a standard axial at the same pressure would be at zero airflow.
3 speeds — exact data from independent testing
| Speed | rpm | Airflow (0 Pa) | Airflow (50 Pa) | Airflow (100 Pa) | dB(A) @ 3m |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 1,645 | 105 l/s | 65 l/s | 31 l/s | 29 dB(A) |
| High | 2,350 | 155 l/s | 135 l/s | 112 l/s | 36 dB(A) |
29 dB(A) at low speed — practically imperceptible from an adjacent room. Suitable for installation in a bedroom or office suspended ceiling where continuous low-volume operation is acceptable.
Construction features that matter at installation
360° rotating motor chassis — the motor body rotates freely relative to the casing, allowing electrical connections to be oriented in any direction relative to the duct. Essential when suspended ceiling space prevents standard connection.
Detachable spigots — inlet and outlet connections detach from the housing without tools. The casing can be inserted into the duct first, spigots attached after, when lateral space is limited.
Separate footplate for mounting — the fixing plate mounts independently of the fan body, allowing precise positioning before clipping the fan in place.
Clean without removing ducting — all moving components extract from the front without disconnecting air ducts. Simple periodic cleaning — relevant for kitchen installations or dusty environments.
ACM 150 vs ACM 150T — what the timer adds
| Feature | ACM 150 | ACM 150T |
|---|---|---|
| Operation | On light switch or separate switch | Switch start + run-on after switch off |
| Run-on timer | No | Yes — continues after command off |
| Best for | Installations with BMS or external timer | Bathrooms, kitchens, spaces needing residual extraction |

FAQ
How much more ductwork can the ACM 150 handle versus a standard axial? A standard 150mm axial has static pressure of 15–20 Pa at maximum airflow. The ACM 150 reaches 46 Pa. In practice the ACM 150 can serve an installation 2–3× longer or with more bends than an equivalent axial delivering the same airflow into the space.
Can it be controlled with an external speed controller? Yes — Vent-Axia recommends the 1.5A electronic controller (W300310) for variable speed control with On/Off/sensor slider and adjustable minimum speed. The controller is not compatible with the ACM 150T timer model.
Does it require an earth wire? No — Class II insulation. Connects to phase + neutral only, no protective earth conductor required.
