From the residential range to the industrial class — what changes with the ACM 250

The ACM 250 represents the step from the residential-commercial ACM range (100–200mm, polymer casing) into the industrial category: galvanised metal housing, IP54 instead of IP44, Class I appliance requiring earth connection, and 140W power versus the 110W maximum of the ACM 200 series.

IP54 means complete dust protection and protection against water spray from any direction — the ACM 250 can be installed in wet industrial environments, large professional kitchens, laundries, production spaces and plant rooms with condensation.

At 200 Pa — long duct run with multiple bends and grilles — the ACM 250 still delivers 1,260 m³/h. A standard 250mm axial at 200 Pa would be at or near zero airflow.

Diagonal impeller with stator — what it is and why it matters

The ACM 250 uses a diagonal mixed flow impeller combined with a fixed stator downstream of the impeller. The stator redirects the airflow from rotational motion into pure axial flow, recovering rotational kinetic energy and converting it into useful static pressure.

Compared to a pure axial without stator:

  • 40–60% higher static pressure at the same airflow
  • Better overall efficiency
  • Lower aerodynamic noise at the same airflow (reduced turbulence)

Compared to a centrifugal of the same power:

  • Compact axial footprint — direct installation in circular duct without adaptors

Galvanised metal housing — why it matters over polymer

The galvanised steel housing of the ACM 250 provides mechanical resistance to accidental impacts and structural vibration, higher operating temperature resistance, better motor heat dissipation for extended service life, and chemical resistance to grease vapours, organic compounds and moisture in industrial environments.

FAQ 

Why does the ACM 250 require an earth connection when the ACM 100–200 does not? At higher power (140W) and industrial applications, Class I with mandatory earth connection is the standard safety requirement. The earth conductor (PE) must be connected to the designated terminal at installation. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Can it be controlled with a standard dimmer switch? No — resistive or capacitive dimmers are not compatible with capacitor-run motors. Use only the recommended Vent-Axia controller (1.5A, ref. W300310) or a variable frequency drive compatible with single-phase capacitor motors.

What floor area can the ACM 250 ventilate? At 6 air changes per hour (industrial space standard): 1,620 m³/h ÷ 6 = 270 m² at 1m ceiling height or 135 m² at 2m ceiling height. Exact calculation depends on ceiling height and installation resistance.

Is it compatible with Ø250mm flexible ductwork? Yes — the Ø250mm spigot is compatible with both rigid spiral ductwork and standard flexible aluminium ducting of Ø250mm diameter.

What is the difference between the ACM 250 and ACM 315? The ACM 315 (650 l/s / 2,340 m³/h at 0 Pa) provides 44% more airflow at the same pressure and reaches 460 l/s at 300 Pa versus 120 l/s for the ACM 250. The ACM 315 uses a 3.0A transformer speed controller instead of the 1.5A electronic controller.
